No matter what time of year it is there are always great things happening in Boulder, but the summer always has a special quality to it. While Techstars is the obvious summer focus for me, there is much going on, including Mobile Monday Colorado. This local mobile networking group started almost a year ago out of the Techstars office, or what we call “Winter in the Bunker” during the off-season. They have since grown their membership to over 300 people and moved into a larger space on the CU campus (ATLAS), but we take pride knowing we helped give a home to a group who is working to help other entrepreneurs in the local area.
On July 19th, Mobile Monday Colorado (MoMoCo) is hosting Techstars mentor Dion Almaer, who is the Managing Director of Developer Relations at Palm (now HP). Dion is a great mentor who has been working with Techstars for a number of years, and has a wealth of knowledge in the mobile and web technology space. Prior to Palm, he worked at both Mozilla and Google in senior roles helping to evolve their partner ecosystems, and his current involvement in the AJAX community with Ajaxian.com is also top notch – just ask the thousands of developers who follow him. Dion is going to talk about what the HP acquisition means to Palm and consumers, as well as how the development community will be able to benefit from the extensive product reach HP will have as the largest consumer device company in the world with WebOS. HP has already announced that they will be launching WebOS based SmartPhones, Tablets, and Intelligent Printers. It will be a great event with great insights on mobility and the future of the web!
