Job board silliness

Ok, I figure startups a special market for jobs. So amidst all the fervor about job boards on blogs lately, I decided to give it a shot. Too bad SimplyHired’s Job-a-matic is still full of bugs and doesn’t seem to have working widgets. So I went with a board that’s been around a while, and doesn’t have lots of bells and whistles.

Job postings are free, so have at it. Let’s keep the jobs about Colorado, tech, and startups only. Otherwise, it won’t be free (or exist) for long. If I do ever set a price, proceeds will go towards more of my Kiva loans.

So go ahead, scram.. Check out the Colorado Startups job board. Special just for you, it’s even RSS enabled.

  1. What were the bugs that you found? Perhaps a better question what were the bugs that prompted you not to use jobamatic?

  2. Hi David,

What kind of issues did you have per se? I would love to know what we can do better & would like to know what problems you had.

Note: As this is our first iteration of the product, we realize that there are things we still need to work on. We will be rolling out some changes over the next few weeks that will make the product even better.

Please feel free to contact me (damon@simplyhired.com) with your issues.

  3. I’m impressed with the response from SimplyHired. Thanks guys for taking the linkbait.

I really wanted to use Job-a-matic, but got fed up with it after about 30 minutes. Once some of these issues are resolved, I hope to move back to it.

    Here are the issues:

    1. The primary draw of Jobamatic was the backfill inventory capability. This did not work for me. I selected Colorado only regions, and in all cases the backfill was from elsewhere. Also, when I said to backfill only if I had no inventory, it didn’t backfill at all, even though I had no inventory yet. I got pretty frustrated with this, and it was the main draw to jobamatic for me.

    2. I need widgets showing job listings, so I can sprinkle these on my site. I didn’t find this capability. the one I used allowed me to highlight random jobs from my board, etc. That’s really nice. So I have that on all my pages now. This is not a bug, just a need.

    3. I need a RSS feed for my boards jobs only. Didn’t see that. Again, not a bug, just a need.

Fix those few things, and I’ll be back in a heartbeat. Your value prop is much more compelling.

Thanks for caring. It says alot.

  4. Hi David,

    Thanks for the feedback!

    1. Backfill is currently a little buggy & our QA guys & gals are working on improvements as we speak.

    2. Great idea.

    3. Also a great idea.

I would come back and check our blog (blog.simplyhired.com) for updates very shortly. As stated, a ton of improvements are just around the corner.

    Regards,
    Damon

  5. David,
Good luck with the job-board (might help us all 🙂
